Pneumatic tube

December 31st, 2006

A couple of weeks ago I was out doing my duty, restarting a WebSphere Portal server for a customer when I saw this in their building: A pneumatic tube. I do not believe that it was in use today, but I had to take a picture of it. Funny thing, I wanted to try it out :-)

Read about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumatic_tube

How to make a good round of waffles

December 29th, 2006

My short introduction on how to make a good round of waffles, assuming the batter is already prepared.

Make sure the waffle iron is hot enough. My iron is so advanced that is has a green light flashing when ready. Pour batter in the hot waffle iron

Waffle

When the waffle is a bit done, but still underdone, the iron will lift itself up as the picture is showing. This due to the waffle is swelling.

Waffle

To make a good solid waffle you then need to apply pressure on the waffle iron, hold for about ten seconds while the waffle makes a sizzling sound.

Waffle

After a couple of minutes, depending on your iron and how efficient it is...your waffle is done. Size matters, I have the largest they had in the shop! Less trouble eating

Concert with Bigbang yesterday

December 22nd, 2006

First we went out to Mecca to eat http://oslopuls.no/restaurant/article1185150.ece Quite ok, but nothing really special. Then it was concert, together with all the kids on the balcony at Sentrum Scene. All tickets downstairs where sold out, so we had to stay there with the kids, drinking lemonade. But it did not matter, since this was the best Bigbang concert I ever have been to, and it was my forth.

Greni's guitar amp was not to happy, a fuse snapped, and they had trouble getting hold of a new one. So he had to play two songs with acoustic guitar. Did not matter, and when he got his amp to work again he found his extra gear.

Pancakes are dangerous

December 20th, 2006

We ate pancakes for dinner today, and afterwards I tried to watch That 70's Show, but I could not, I felt asleep, totally. My phone rang, was not able to answer, the same happened to Elin. What had I put into them?

I've upgraded my blog

December 17th, 2006

Today I have updated my blog due to some security issues in my old version. The whole process was quite easy, just had to delete my old stuff and replace it with my new stuff.

PMS Survival Tips

December 17th, 2006

Elin was quite happy, for the first time she had found a video on the internet that she wanted to show to me :-) She had found it here http://www.mortenflaten.com/blogg/221106211058_everybodys_got_something_to_hide.html

I've tried using the youtube plugin in my blog http://manual.b2evolution.net/Plugins/youtube_plugin Does seem to have some minor bugs, since I'm not able to get the correct search results - but spanish subtitles does not interfere with the user experience according to my standards :-)

But after some back and forward, I realized that at least I could past the link to the video manually between the [video:youtube:] tags. So here below is the pure english version provided to you as well.

At the airport in Pittsburgh

December 15th, 2006

Came in early, took a taxi together with Terry. Kind a funny incident at the check in. Two women where working there, both employed by North West Airlines, but quite clearly not working on the same team.

  • Lady 1 - Please come up to the counter here sir!
  • Lady 2 - NO! Please wait by the line sir, it's full here!!
  • Lady 1 - Don't listen to her, she does things her own way, if she bothers you I will call the manager
  • Lady 2 - SIR! It's full here
  • Lady 1 - Don't listen to her, I will help you sir!

No wonder I was confused! I now have 2 hours until the plane leaves for Detroit, where I will have at the most 46 minutes before my next plane leaves for Amsterdam. Some says it's enough, some other says...run for your life...time will show.

Gary, Gary, Jim and I went out tonight, first we went to a pub and had a beer. I had problems choosing, look at the picture and you will understand why

Beer

Then I had to take a picture of this sign on the toilet door where we went to eat. At first I thought it was just for fun, but in fact it was not. If someone was standing there washing their hands, you would risk hurting them if you walked through the door really fast

Caution

Then we went to another bar and the four of us had different kind of beers

Beers

And even though I'm not in to smoking I had to take a picture of this sign saying "We don't mind if you Smoke, in fact we Encourage it. Living forever is Vastly Overrated"

Pittsburgh - The Penn brewery

December 14th, 2006

After having been to the Church we went to the Penn brewery http://www.pennbrew.com/ to get something to eat. I had the Penn Weizen

Weiz

And then I had the Penn Pilsner, both beers very good! Both had a distinct taste of smoke...smoked...

Weiz

Afterwards we went to this other place which I don't remember the name of, but I had beer from Bell's Brewery (in a Belhaven glass), it was called "Two hearted Ale" . Really tasty and good, find out more at http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/1093/

The Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh

December 14th, 2006

I might consider joining this Church, The Church Brew Works. The altar is in fact a real brewery, and when we got there some senator was having his campaign there so we got free beer!! Where else in the world would you get that??? Free beer in a church. I guess even D.O.S would consider joining this church?

See it all here http://www.churchbrew.com/

This morning on my way to get some breakfast I took this picture showing the streets of Pittsburgh

Pictures from Pittsburgh

December 13th, 2006

Currently in Pittsburgh attending a pilot course at IBM for WebSphere Portal 6.0 Development. Pittsburgh is nice, meaning - the part I have seen, being the view from my hotel room and the buildings between here and the IBM building. It is just a five minute walk, so as you might realize, I have not seen anything :-)

I forgot my camera, so have me excused for not having pictures of better quality :-)

Is it the end of the World?

December 12th, 2006

I do belive that it is the end of the world as we know it. For the time being I'm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The temprature here is as back home in Norway a lot warmer than what's normal. Skiing, bye bye!!

Yesterday when flying over Detroit I realized that if I had been president in the U.S for a day I would have done three things

  1. Decided that in 15 years over 50% of all cars should run on what we today consider alternative fuel. Meaning electricity, hydrogen or similar.
  2. Decided that in 15 years all sources of light as we know them today should have been replaced with for instance led-lightsources. Did you know that about 80-90% of the energy consumed to light up the world is just waste in form of heat?
  3. From today, decide that all prices should include all taxes, service charges and that kind a shit. Today when eating breakfast: "it's 11,95 sir", meaning 12,50 or so including taxes and service charges...stupid!!!

What is happening to the climate in Norway? Read here (In Norwegian) http://met.no/aktuelt/nyhetsarkiv/2006/noracia.html Global Warming or not, it is getting warmer, and I don't like it!! I also stumbled across this guy Sigbjørn Grønås http://www.forskning.no/personer/1017927465.33

Candle gone mad

December 10th, 2006

Yesterday at Vestreng a candle went completely mad, mainly because someone had dropped a match in it when putting light to it. We all learned the consequences of that, a minute later the table cloth was on fire. So this christmas it's quite easy to buy a gift for Elins mother...a new coffee table :-)

Darik's Boot and Nuke

December 10th, 2006

Two weeks ago when I finished my job at Informatikk I wiped out the pc completely before turning it in. To do that I used "Darik's Boot and Nuke" http://dban.sourceforge.net Just download the cd image, boot your pc from the cd and you are just a few keystrokes away from turning all the content in to the history.

But - does DBAN wipe your data away for good? No, read the FAQ "DBAN is 'good enough' for 'most people'." but people with enough time and money might be able to get hold of your content...
