Causing a radial head subluxation to my sons left arm

Nursemaid’s elbow, Babysitter’s elbow or Pulled elbow is a dislocation of the elbow joint caused by a sudden pull on the extended pronated arm, such as by an adult tugging on an uncooperative child. The technical term for the injury is radial head subluxation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nursemaid%27s_elbow

While passing a crosswalk Anders was not as cooperative as I wanted, and combined with the fact that a bus was approaching us I grabbed his arm and pulled him over to the other side. He then started to cry a bit and seemed uncomfortable. I then carried him home and realized when he got undressed that his left arm was just hanging straight down. We headed straight for the emergency ward where we immediately got help. The doctor spent about a minute or two figuring out what had happened, then he spent just 5 seconds and voila…just like magic the arm was fixed and just a minute afterwards Anders was climbing around on everything like nothing had happened.

Must admit that I felt like a very bad parent having caused him such an injury, but then again I was calmed down at the emergency ward when the doctor told me that this was a very common injury and that at least Anders was better of with the injury than being hit by a bus…puhh!!

Navy ship from the Netherlands, Lion’s mane jellyfish and an electrical bike

On my way to work today I stopped down by the harbor to take a picture of a oncoming ship. It was the hydrographic survey vessel HNLMS Snellius (A 802) of the Netherlands Navy.

Then I also noticed a bunch of Lion’s mane jellyfish below me. Good for me that I was not about to take a swim! Must admit that I find the amount of jellyfish a bit scary, scientist are having trouble explaining the amount of jellyfishes invading our fjords this and previous years. But the most reasonable explanation involves overfishing as the reason for it, less fish, more jellyfish.

This, and other things like the bee colony collapse disorder makes me fear where the future. Not so much for my own sake, I do only have, give or take a few, 40 more years to walk (cycle) on this earth, but my two boys have the double of that (I hope). So what challenges they will have to struggle with in their future is something I do spend some time worrying about. When I grew up we did fear the atomic bomb, but that was simpler. Either the war started, or it did not, and luckily it did not. Climate changes (for whatever reason), overfishing, pollution of the earth, etc, etc…all these things are happening, they cannot be avoided, so I feel that I only can cross my fingers and hope for the best…

But, enough of that, when I started pedaling again a guy passed me riding a bike equipped with an electrical support engine. He went in a ridiculously high speed compared to the cadence. Must admit that I do have some trouble getting the point, why spend so much money on a bike with a crappy engine, why not instead then by a scooter? OR a fancy bike powered by you only, and get the exercise as a bonus???

Thor Hushovd making me go a bit further

Yesterday Elin and the boys where still at Vestreng so I enjoyed my dinner in the canteen watching Tour De France on the big screen. Stayed there an extra hour since Hushovd did a brilliant stage winning back the green jersey.

So when heading back home I decided to do a few extra kilometers. Headed towards Jar, here down by Lysakerelva realizing that this was a dead end

Then up to Tryvann, and also passing Skjennungen where I stopped to take this picture.

Then passing Ullevålseter down to Hammeren, and home via Kjelsås. All in all 41 kilometers on my single speed, nice! See the route at Sportstracker

Alternative route to my in-laws

Two days ago I had almost the whole day alone, no kids to take care of, and with the sun shining from a clear blue sky what better thing to do than spend the day on my bike. Elin and Iver went with the car to Vestreng and I followed them on my bike. Started out towards Romsås and Romsåstoppen, the highest point of the day 448 meters above sea level. Had fun down the trail towards Nittedal, had one fall on a very slippery rock, but managed to jump of the bike and avoided falling with my head first down a small cliff. Then towards Leirsund and over the hill and down to Fetsund. Ice break there before trying to go around Varsjøen. Spent some time there due to the fact that there where no trail. Had to carry the bike for almost half an hour, but got a bonus: The trail down from Brattåsen, much fun. But when out on the road towards Aurskog I was all out of something to drink, and with the warm weather that was no good. So when at Aurskog I visited Hanne and had about an hour break getting plenty to drink and eat. Then the last 20k was just a walk in the park. See the whole route here at Sportstracker

Elin singing in church at our wedding last year

In three days it is one year since we got married, what better occasion than our one year anniversary to upload the video of Elin singing to Youtube. Use the direct link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK-57qDd2WE or watch the embedded clip below.

Johan Lundgren is playing the guitar and Lars Tormod Jenset is playing the bass. Roy Helmersen did his share of work behind the camera.

Just outside our hotel room window

When back at the hotel room at half past two tonight I noticed a strange sound from the window. Looking out through the wide open window, just 4-5 meters away, a couple was “doin’it”. Just pulled the curtains together and let them have their way, but afterwards I was pretty close to throw water on them since they could not stop talking…

Another 900 k in one leg

Yesterday me, Anders and my sister Ingrid headed down from Mosjøen towards Oslo. Started out at 10 o’clock in the morning, not sure how far we would get. But including at least six stops, including dinner at IKEA in Trondheim, we got all the way to Oslo just around midnight. Not bad, since Anders still is just a bit more than two years old. He was bored at the end, but then again, he could have spent more than two hours sleeping instead of looking for tractors, excavators and other things with engines.
