Femsjøen Rundt last Saturday

Espen and I went down to Halden last Saturday to participate in the 100 km race “Femsjøen Rundt”. Espen said that he wanted nice weather since he was tired of cycling in the rain. He should not have said that, the weather was ok at the starting line, cold and a bit of rain, then later no rain, but the second half was bad, it rained almost more than Lillehammer – Oslo, if possible…We are not on the video below, but if you fast forward to the end, you will see the comment “To much rain to film from a cab…”

The results are here, but last time I checked Espen and I still was not on the list, due to trouble at the finish line. Anyhow, he used 2.44 and I 2.45 or so…

Not much, but it is a start

Due to the fact that I’m quite lucky, living here in Norway, with my girlfriend, both working and not much to complain about I do believe that it is my responsibility to do at least some small things. So last week I wrote a letter to the General Prosecutor in Russia demanding him to look into the disappearance of Bulat Chilaev. It is the least I can do, being who I am and living where I do – a drop in the ocean maybe, but still – the ocean consists of many drops and all that stuff…

And yes, it might be that my voice, together with all the others in fact will make a difference

Someone has swallowed their tounge

I was about to go to bed when I read an article in the latest issue of Ny Tid, and it got me to do a search on Youtube for the words Stewart and Crossfire. John Stewart, the host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central, now showing on NRK2 here in Norway was invited to Crossfire on CNN. A show that Stewart had mentioned several times due to its nature, always wanting just yes/no answers, asking only the simple questions, a bit like Holmgang on Tv2 here in Norway (if you have watched either of the shows, you get my point!!). Anyhow, I spent 14 minutes watching the clip, and it is…hilarious I must say. Stewart is not there to be funny, and it is a bit like a tank running over unarmed soldiers (but in a good way), Stewart leaves the two hosts with nothing but disgrace.

Here is the transcript http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/bljonstewartcrossfire.htm And don’t let you be fooled by the “politicalhumor” url, this is in fact deadly serious

And at last, I had to check Holmgangs webpage

Vi skal informere, engasjere og provosere, sier programleder Oddvar Stenstrøm.

Concert with Ornand Altenburg

Today Elin and I together with Margit and Sveinung and several other people we know went to see Ornand Altenburg at the release concert for his latest album. The concert was held at the boat Innvik http://www.msinnvik.no/. A really good concert, liked this cd better than his last, a bit more “up”… http://www.ornandaltenburg.no/

Svartedauen – Yngvar Ustvedt

Spent this week reading a book about the Black Death http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Death Very interesting book which first let you know how the people reacted on the plague back then, as we know it by the written material form back then. Then is let you know what the plague really was, and how they found the reason for the spreading, at least some of them, the plague was in fact spread by fleas, both human and rat fleas.

Malfunction

A bit of malfunction yesterday when out bike cycling. Was supposed to go on a ride with Petter, together with the rest of Rye, but take a closer look at the picture – my chain ring should be mounted on my bike, not be in my hand!!

King of Queens

My eyes are getting weary. My back is getting tight.
I’m sitting here in traffic on the Queensborough Bridge tonight.
But I don’t care ’cause all I want to do
Is cash my check and drive right home to you.

Cause Baby, all my life, I will be driving home to you.

“The Forgotten Soldier” – Guy Sajer

My latest book, The Forgotten Soldier written by Guy Sajer (a pseudonym). A really good book about the brutality of war. In fact so good that when I yesterday wanted to buy a new book I realized that I was tired of books about human beings and how we are not able to learn from the history, but instead keep doing bad things all the time. Anyhow, more details about the book is available here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Sajer and if you are at least a bit interested in the Second World War, buy it and read it.
