Gardening work this evening

Did some maintenance out in the garden to my in-laws at Vestreng. My first evening this summer spent outside until late doing handy work. Have been a bit to much cycling, but not complaining, because I’m well aware that the story will repeat itself next year 🙂

Anyhow, first I had to fill the ditch. Anders have bought a mobile saw, and needed electricity for it, so he used the tractor digger. I used the shovel to move the dirt back.

Then I chopped down some small trees and moved the “lawn” outside the barn.

There is a bat in my kitchen

There’s a rat in me kitchen what am I gonna do?
There’s a rat in me kitchen what am I gonna go?
I’m gonna fix that rat thats what I’m gonna do,
I’m gonna fix that rat.

Elins mother did a small adjustment to that text earlier today when something was flying around in the kitchen. She was not aware of what it was, she was terrified while the adrenaline was flowing around in her body. She found a stick and hunted it down. Later I opened the plastic bag and found out that it was a bat…so…there was a bat in her kitchen, she knew what to do.

Later another one came out of the chimney in the living room. Elin have never been so scared. I managed to get it inside an ice box before it got all out of the chimney and let it loose outside. Good thing, since they are protected by law which I found out later 🙂

The fight against Avena fatua

Today I have been a solider in the war against Avena fatua at Vestreng. The oat which is considered a noxious weed here in Norway. It is boring for sure, going there in the field, bending down trying to spot the oat, but the law say that we must do it. If you are in to Norwegian you can read the law here http://www.regelhjelp.no/Templates/Emne____6870.aspx

Anders, Elin’s father walking around.

And here I found one which I picked and carried back home in a plastic bag. Later we will burn it.

New old cellphone

I had to replace my old phone, the Nokia 5500 Sport. The microphone did not function properly anymore, so people did not hear what I said. So yesterday I went out to the office to pick up a Nokia N73 which was just lying there. Spent about two-three hours all in all, and then I was back up running again. Thanks to the Nokia PC-suite it was easy to transfer my contacts. Just take a backup from the old phone, and do a restore on the new one. The data cable I bought for the old one fits the new one as well, that helps a lot when doing such work. I also upgraded the software on the phone.

The camera on the new one is quite good, 3,2 MP. Apart from that I do not need the new functionality. I guess I will miss the size of the old one, this one is bigger. Also the fact that the old one was meant to cope with more outdoor use than this one. Hope it will last at least a year, since it is exactly a year since I bought the old one /blog/index.php/2007/07/05/new_cellphone_nokia_5500_sport

Tested the camera, here you have me and Anders.

Why worry?

Have read some articles about the new Opera here in Oslo where it gets criticized for not being well formed for disabled persons, in this case the blinds. Here is one of those articles

I must say that I agree when it comes to the interior of the building, it should be accessible for blind people, but why on earth are they complaining about the exterior? There is only one reason to go up on the roof of the building and that is to enjoy the view…

Want to eat the Spanish Slug?

If you want to get revenge on the Spanish Slug http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_slug, you can actually eat it (yuch!) According to http://www.aftenposten.no/nyheter/iriks/article2538243.ece you must

1) Put them in salt for 2 or 3 days.
2) Boil them in water for about 3 hours
3) Add taste, garlic, wine or butter
4) Enjoy!

Spanish Slug is know as the Iberiasneglen in Norway, or Brunsegl. The latin name is Arion lusitanicus.

Friday – Bicycling to Moss with Hans Jacob

On Friday we went to Moss to visit Sigrid and Vegard. Elin went with the car a day before me and on Friday me and Hans Jacob, the husband to Elin’s cousin, went together on our bicycles. We had a nice ride, good weather even though the wind was blowing hard in our face almost the whole way. Half way we had a break and bought strawberry close to Ås. Had to enjoy it, because the last time I went there it was definitely not like that http://www.hellem.org/blog/index.php/2008/04/06/100k-today-in-bad-weather?blog=6

Anyhow, this is the route

And here we are enjoying the strawberrys

Grinderman – Grinderman

Birthday present from Elin. The last album signed Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, with the exception that it is not the Bad Seeds, but Grinderman, a side project. Read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinderman
