Biting your own tail

The leader for Norwegian Immigrant’s Forum http://www.norskinnvandrerforum.no/ says in a response to Aslam Ahsan that he can see no problems with schools with only minoritys. He claims that Norwegian schools prioritizes so called Norwegian knowledge, and that they instead should focus on educating the minority children about Turkey and Pacistan…read for yourself http://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/2008/01/10/523467.html

Talk about biting your own tail, according to their own website they aim to for instance increase their participation in the Norwegian society. How lame is it not then to say that he can see no problem in having schools with just minoritys. To me is sounds more like he wants “Schools with just muslim children learning the Qur’ân word by word”.

Off course it is a problem with having schools with just minoritys, they will never be able to be fully part of the Norwegian society it they not mingle with Norwegian kids

Dagbladet is bringing you the news

First of all, let there be no doubt about the fact that the story itself is sad, and that it is no laughing matter, my point here is what the news value is for me and my fellow Norwegians.

I turned on my computer this morning just to check my email before going to work, and as usual I also checked the latest news. Dagbladet.no reported as the headline news “Pregnant 20 year old corporal gone missing”. I must admit that I found it a bit off topic using the word corporal in the headline, but then again I thought that it had something to do with things happened in the Norwegian army.

But then I read about the case http://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/2008/01/09/523421.html. The story is about a girl gone missing in North Carolina US about a month ago, and their family has created a group on Facebook go try to get her back. I must admit that I am not able to see the real news value for me living here in Norway, it is just another issue of Dagbladet doing “one feather becoming several chickens”. I got pissed when I realized that this was no Norwegian story. Sure, a lot of sad things happens around the world, but I do not need to know it all.

It seems like Dagbladet has had no real news to have as their headliner, so they have just looked to Cnn.com and copied theirs headliner, ignoring the part that even though CNN is a “World news reporter” it is also an American news agency reporting what is to be considered local news for the US.

But, still, even if Dagbladet and VG keeps annoying me again and again, I keep coming back, just for the simple fact that typing www.vg.no or www.db.no is so fast…doh

Here is the “real” story http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/01/09/missing.marine/index.html

Visiting Trosterud

Yesterday I visited Trosterud, not well known among tourists I would guess, but I have found some information about the place. First the subway station http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trosterud_stasjon, then they have young chefs there http://oslopuls.no/fritid/article1217487.ece. But then, why did I visit Trosterud, just one subway station away from Haugerud? The book I’m now reading is engrossing me a lot, and all of a sudden I saw that we where at Haugerud station when the doors closed….doh!

Medium – the tv serie

I’m very fascinated of the wake up scene of todays episode of Medium http://www.nbc.com/Medium/. They both woke up, husband and wife, wearing their t-shirts, in fact Allison had on shirt on top of the other one. My first reaction was that it must be hot (like in warm) to wear so much clothes when sleeping. I sweat just wearing my panties…

And then the next scene, they get into the kitchen where their three kids are already awake, dressed up and sitting quietly around the table. If having kids is like that, sign me up! But I also realized the good thing about sleeping with your clothes on, because the grown ups did not need to do anything, they just got right out of bed and into the kitchen where mummy started making pancakes. Their hair was all done, what a wonderful world it must be! They even drive an old Volvo 245.

And I even feel sorry for the husband in the serie, he never seems to get a whole night of sleep, since his wife wakes up screaming each night…

Stalingrad – Antony Beevor

My latest book “Stalingrad” by Antony Beevor. Stalingrad is considered the turning point of WW2, and I find it very interesting to get to know how the Russian victory of Stalingrad would then again strongly influence how Europe was divided into West and East after the end of the war. More, it was frightening to read about the suffering on both sides during the battle. We are never able to understand it by just reading about it, but then again, at least when having read the book I know more…
