The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time – #96

Kvelertak, ‘Meir’ (2013)

Simply great!!

Quoting Rolling Stone:

….Metal in the 2010s is almost absurdly balkanized, a sea of disconnected subscenes. Think of Kvelertak as the genre’s loutish, lovable unifiers, smashing through metal’s stylistic barriers, Kool-Aid Man–style, and bringing the fun back. These hard-touring Norwegians – whose name means “Stranglehold” – started strong with their self-titled 2010 debut, but their second LP, Meir (“More”), felt like a benchmark for contemporary metal as a whole, an album that playfully, raucously muddied lingering distinctions between mainstream and underground styles…

The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time – #98

Sunn O))), ‘Monoliths & Dimensions’ (2009)

…and I have started to regret the “no skip”-rule. I quote Rolling Stone:

“I would never claim that Sunn O))) is a jazz band, but I think there are elements of jazz, if it’s not the tone, it’s the theories and the openness,” Sunn O)))’s Greg Anderson told The Wire. While no one will confuse Dave Brubeck with Sunn O)))’s signature roar – wall-rumbling slabs of drumless, heavily amplified electric-guitar drone – the open-ended platform allows the avant-metal duo to collaborate and experiment with ease.

This album was way out of my league…I now listen to David Bowie’s “Heroes” just to wash my ears…

Heat protection 101

Not nice in any way, but it does the trick. Two days ago I tried using aluminium foil on the inside of the window…that was a great mistake, very, very hot. Then I taped the car flooring mats of textile on the outside as well. That made it better, but even if the second floor did not get that hot the window became incredibly hot, so I laid a chipboard on top ot that. But since that one was not mounted in any way it could easily blow away if the wind got strong. So now I have made this, not nice at all, protection out of some leftover wood paneling and parquet foam. I got the foam from my neighbour who has used it while painting motorcycle parts, so it is a bit dirty, but that does not matter. Now I have two layers of air, first between the glass and the paneling, and then between the paneling and the foam, so that should protect the window from becoming so hot and most important of all: The second floor won’t be all that hot in the evening when we are going to bed. Apart from this, our house cope with the heat pretty good since it is an old timber house from 1850. Cold in the summer, warm in the winter. (And yes, I know that I need to paint the gable boards, but in this heat: No way!!)

And just in time, tomorrow will be the warmest day so far this year. Hoping that the rain will come as promised on Sunday, and hopefully the forecast will change back to rain on Saturday as well.
