Back from holiday

Back from two weeks in Croatia. We have been to Dubrovnik, Split and Korcula. We have had a day trip to Mostar in Bosnia, we have sea paddled and been to the beach nearly every day…

Croatia was nice, and we saw very few signs of the war from a bit more then 10 years ago. But we visited a war photo exhibition, which reminded us about the war that had been, and also plenty others. Take a look at their website http://www.warphotoltd.com/

My homepage has also had two days of down time due to some domain hosting issues. It is now solved as you might have figured out since you are reading this. http://www.hostean.net, my web hotel fixed this in just a day.

Still – raining

We went out to Nesodden earlier today and I took my bicycle so I could use it to get back home. Great plan, had it just not been for the rain. About 30 minutes before I started it started raining cats and dogs. I must admit that I’m looking forward to our vacation – two weeks without my bicycle. Have spent almost 15 hours this week riding either my MTB or my road bike, its fun 🙂

Øyern rundt with Espen

Espen and I spent a bit more than 5 hours on our bicycles cycling all the way around Øyern today. All in all almost 150 kilometers. I’m a bit tired right now, and Espens knee is hurting.

We passed Solbergfoss power station where we stopped for five minutes http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solbergfoss_kraftverk

New cellphone – Nokia 5500 Sport

My old 5140 have annoyed me quite much the past few week, turning itself of every once and then and leaving me with the need to take the battery out to unlock it, and then use the charger to switch it on. The use of the charger was needed because the on/off switch did not work after the phone had been in the washing machine last year.

So I bought a 5500 sport, wanted a phone with a bit more functionality than my old one. So have had it since Tuesday, and it has…guess what…turned itself of twice. By using the code *#0000# I’m able to check the OS version – currently V04.03. I will try to upgrade the os, hoping that will do the trick.

Anyhow, when I got it I looked for the auto lock, just to realize that it had no auto lock. I had to download it and install it as just another program. If you ever need it, do a search for AutoLock_v1.1_for_S60_3rd_ed.SISX. I have a fear that Symbian sucks bigtime!!!

King Leopold’s Ghost: – Adam Hochschild

King Leopold’s Ghost: a story of greed, terror, and heroism in Colonial Africa or “Kong Leopolds arv” in Norwegian, my latest book. Such stories we never did learn in school, but really should have. By reading this book you get a much better understanding of the story of Africa the past 100 years. I won’t try to retell it here, I would just recommend the book to you for sure!

ICE Your Cell Phone For Safety

Store your loved ones on your cell phone as ICE

ICE is the brainchild of British paramedic Bob Brotchie, who told The Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen Tuesday the idea came to him “just from reflecting on difficulties I’ve had in obtaining information about patients. The vast majority of people don’t carry emergency contact details or next-of-kin details, but the vast majority of people carry cell phones.

So now Elin is stored as “ICE, Elin” not meaning that she is ice cold or something like that 🙂

I go bicycle riding….

We went to visit Pia and Arve yesterday and stayed there for one night. I brought my bike so today I went bicycle riding home from Tønsberg. Due to the road work in the tunnels on the highway, E18, I did not want to cycle along the road from Holmestrand with its heavy traffic. So instead I cycled to Horten, took the ferry to Moss and went along the road passing Elvestad, Enebakk and Rælingen. All in all 115 kilometers, passing three county’s: Vestfold, Østfold and Akershus.

Somewhere between Ringvold and Elvestad I also spotted an elk only 10 meters from the road. It ignored me totally, instead it stood there eating.
